The 'GTA' Series' Standing and Anticipation for GTA 6, as Seen Through Streaming Data

Kim Jun-su (HealT) Reporter | 2026-09-07 11:06:12

This week's hottest title at a glance — global streaming metrics! We took a look together with ContentFlux, a data analytics solution.

Today's subject is Grand Theft Auto (GTA). With the recently released GTA 6 in-game preview video generating buzz worldwide, we checked the streaming data to see where the series stands and how much anticipation there is for the new title.

470 Million Copies Sold, Still Going Strong After 13 Years

GTA is one of the industry's leading game franchises, having sold over 470 million copies worldwide. Among them, GTA 5, released in 2013, remains the series' biggest hit with more than 225 million copies sold.

Even 13 years after launch, its popularity hasn't faded. According to ContentFlux's August game streaming data, GTA 5 ranked in the Top 10 across major platforms.

On YouTube, more than 118,500 related videos were produced in August alone, ranking 5th, while cumulative views surpassed 5.7 billion, placing it 3rd.

On Twitch, over 19,900 related pieces of content were created in the same period, taking 1st place by content count, and its peak concurrent viewers (Max CCU) exceeded 12 million, ranking 5th.

The streaming charts' Top 10 is filled every month with names like Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite. GTA 5 continues to hold its own among these major titles, steadily maintaining a spot near the top.

Just as popular as its predecessor, GTA 6 — set to launch on November 19 — is already generating intense buzz.

The 26-minute in-game preview video 'GTA VI: The Longer Look,' released via Netflix on August 28, racked up 31.1 million views and topped the charts in 87 countries. The same video was uploaded to Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel six hours after its Netflix debut, and had surpassed 20.22 million views as of September 3.

Over 500 Million Cumulative Views — The World Reacts to GTA 6

Next, we took a closer look at the specific footprint GTA 6 left on the global streaming market after the in-game preview video was released.

In the week the video was released (August 24–30), GTA 6 ranked 7th on YouTube's weekly cumulative view chart, racking up more than 508 million cumulative views. On Twitch's Global Top 100 chart, it entered at 5th place, recording a peak concurrent viewer count of more than 2.2 million.

On domestic Korean platforms, no entry data was found in either platform's Top 100 chart: Chzzk aggregates GTA 6 together with the existing GTA 5 category, and SOOP has not created a dedicated GTA 6 category.

Global Creators' Take on the GTA 6 Preview

Alongside the streaming data, we also looked at how users who actually watched the GTA 6 in-game preview reacted, through videos from global creators.

First, Turkish creator 'Enis Kirazoglu,' a general gaming YouTuber with 1.77 million subscribers, published an analysis of GTA 6's 26-minute official gameplay trailer, released on August 28.

The video highlighted the high technical polish running on PlayStation 5, detailed NPC work, and mission and cinematic direction as realistic as a Soulslike title.

The creator expressed high expectations for the immersive open-world direction and reinforced realism, combining the strengths of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. However, points of disappointment included the lack of Turkish subtitle support, insufficient information on open-world NPC reactions and freedom, and some overly linear mission structures.

Key Points - Outstanding graphics and technical execution built on PlayStation 5 - Detailed, realistic NPC movement and facial expressions - Cinematic direction and serious storytelling on par with a film - Mission design offering multiple escape routes and replay potential - Enhanced realism through weapon-carrying limits and vehicle theft mechanics
Low Points - No Turkish subtitle support, hurting accessibility - Lack of concrete information on open-world NPC reactions and freedom - Some missions feel overly linear - Uneven NPC density across different districts - Inconvenient controls from weapon-carrying limits and vehicle theft procedures

An analysis of YouTube comment sentiment on the video found neutral comments the most common at 47%, followed by negative at 36% and positive at 17%. Negative comments mainly cited frustration over the lack of language support and concerns about console hardware limitations.

Positive Summary - Praise for the detailed graphics, immersive direction, and the developer's innovative technical capabilities - Turkish gaming community's expressed anticipation and support for the series' long-term success
Neutral Summary - Discussion of predicted 30 FPS performance on consoles (PS5/Xbox) and hardware optimization/requirements - Hopes for Turkish subtitle support and comparisons of mechanics with the previous title and other games
Negative Summary - Strong disappointment over the lack of Turkish language support and calls for a user boycott - Criticism over a perceived lack of innovation compared to the previous title, slow pacing, and the 30 FPS launch limitation

Next, Spanish creator 'TheGrefg,' a major gaming creator with 19.9 million subscribers, also released reaction content after watching the GTA 6 trailer on August 28.

TheGrefg expressed strong confidence in the new title, admiring the narrative centered on protagonists Jason and Lucia, the immersive police chase system, and the film-like, detailed environmental direction.

However, since the gameplay footage lacked explanation, the streamer was somewhat confused about how exactly the new systems worked.

Key Points - High graphical quality and detail on the standard PlayStation 5 - Immersive narrative centered on protagonists Jason and Lucia - Realistic mechanics for the police chase system and weapon use - Free movement and a variety of environmental interactions - A range of atmospheres and striking cinematic effects reminiscent of film
Low Points - Lack of clear information from the streamer on certain in-game features and systems - Unclear meaning of some UI icons and in-game indicators - Confusing wanted-level (star system) escalation and evasion mechanics - Unclear travel routes in some missions and progression states - Momentary sense of unease from the overly realistic graphics

Sentiment analysis of viewer comments on the video found neutral reactions dominating at 53%, followed by positive at 25% and negative at 22%.

▶ Comment sentiment distribution on TheGrefg's GTA 6 YouTube video.

Positive Summary - Admiration for Lucia's character portrayal and the Dominican-influenced soundtrack - Praise for quality surpassing the previous title, and expressed intent to purchase equipment upgrades
Neutral Summary - Correction of the trailer's background music artist credit and discussion of its cultural influence - Discussion of console 30 FPS performance, the fallout from the earlier leak, and the streamer's playthrough style
Negative Summary - Criticism over the 30 FPS cap, frame-drop concerns, and technical disappointment relative to the previous title - Criticism of the high price, digital-only sales model, and questions about the authenticity of the footage

GTA 6 is, without question, this year's most anticipated title. The fact that its YouTube content had already racked up more than 500 million cumulative views before the game even launched, based solely on the in-game preview reveal, makes that clear.

The streaming charts remain the stage for major hits like Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite. With GTA 5 still holding its ground in that lineup 13 years after release, all eyes are on whether GTA 6 can carry that torch forward.
