Global streaming metrics that allow you to check this week's hottest hits at a glance! We explored them with the data analysis solution ContentFlux.

Today's star is Resident Evil Requiem. We have conducted an in-depth analysis of the spectacular debut of this new title, which has been met with worldwide acclaim, and how that intense excitement is leading to renewed interest in the existing series.

# A duet of horror and action, Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth main installment in the Resident Evil series, a hallmark of survival horror, and features the new journey of Leon S. Kennedy set in the autumn of 2026.

This work brings together the know-how accumulated through the remakes of parts 2 and 4, blending the series' signature authentic horror with modern action into a single package.

The most significant feature is that it offers distinct gameplay experiences by featuring two protagonists, FBI investigator Grace and veteran agent Leon.

The new character, Grace, focuses on the inherent tension of survival horror. Her trembling voice and vivid reactions in fear provide players with visual and auditory immersion. At the same time, the unique system of crafting items by drawing one's own blood adds the sophisticated fun of resource management.

On the other hand, Leon's part, returning with an axe, focuses on the fun of casual action by emphasizing parrying and intense melee attacks. His fierce movements, which stand in stark contrast to Grace's part, provide players with a pleasant sense of liberation that allows them to immerse themselves more deeply in combat.

This design, characterized by an interplay of tension and liberation, led to the achievement of surpassing 5 million cumulative global sales within just five days of its release. Global critics also responded positively, with a Metacritic score of 89 and an "Overwhelmingly Positive" user rating on Steam, earning balanced acclaim for both commercial success and artistic merit.

Resident Evil Requiem opened a new phase for the series by appealing to the nostalgia of classic fans while also attracting new users.

# Restart of the Series Ecosystem Brought About by the New Release Effect

The success of Resident Evil Requiem is not merely the success of a single title, but is reigniting viewership metrics for the entire series.

According to ContentFlux, Resident Evil Requiem recorded over 220 million cumulative views on YouTube over the two days of its official release on February 27 and 28, entering the game rankings at number 43.

A notable point is the simultaneous rise in viewership metrics for older titles in the series, driven by the success of the new release. On YouTube, the remake of the fourth installment climbed 14 spots to reach 69th place, while on Twitch, Resident Evil Village re-entered the chart at 82nd place.

In the first week of release (February 23 to March 1), it ranked 14th on YouTube and 4th on Twitch, and on Twitch, the Remake of Part 4 (48th), Resident Evil Village (69th), and the Remake of Part 2 (98th) also charted, showing a trend of interest spreading across the series.

With both titles appearing side-by-side on the domestic platform CHZZK, it was confirmed that the effect of new releases is driving up viewership metrics for older titles as well. This is attributed to the fact that Resident Evil Requiem inherits the systemic DNA of the remake series while simultaneously functioning as a natural entry point to the previous numbered title, Resident Evil Village.

Since the beginning of March, it has ranked 4th on YouTube, 2nd on Twitch, and 5th on CHZZK, continuing its upward trend on major domestic and international platforms.

# 70% Neutral, Immersive Viewers

Gameplay feedback from global influencers shows the impression Resident Evil Requiem left on actual users.

German influencer HandOfBlood expressed satisfaction with the interaction with the in-game environment and the tense atmosphere. However, they voiced disappointment regarding the inconvenient controls and interface, as well as the difficult puzzle difficulty.

During the broadcast, which lasted for about 100 minutes, the viewer sentiment distribution was recorded as neutral at 72%. This appears to be a result reflecting the viewing pattern of quietly immersing oneself amidst tension, characteristic of the survival horror genre.

North American streamer LIRIK gave a positive review, showing great interest in the strategic combat system leading up to boss battles and the story progression. On the other hand, he pointed out that the DLSS settings reset bug and the monotony of some enemy AI patterns are areas that need improvement.

The viewer sentiment neutrality was 71%, showing a pattern similar to the HandOfBlood broadcast.

Resident Evil Requiem succeeded in captivating global audiences through the golden blend of Grace's part, which preserved the authenticity of survival horror, and Leon's part, which focused on the fun of casual action.

Beyond the success of a single title, it is providing a powerful driving force to bring the remake series, which shares systemic roots, and the previous numbered title, Resident Evil Village, back up the charts.

This virtuous cycle, where the success of a new title leads to the consumption of the entire IP, is an indicator that Resident Evil is operating its 30-year history not as a mere legacy but as an ongoing asset.
