Hi everyone, this is JH from GC!
These days, the world is buzzing with news about AI.
Today, instead of complex AI news, I'd like to share with you a story about AI that I recently experienced.
I receive over 10 AI-generated cold emails a day, and the one I received today was like this:
"I noticed that Sol on your team is from South Korea - Are you considering hiring more outside the US? We specialize in talent sourcing for companies like GGContent (GC Social Media Marketing Inc.)"
The AI caught my attention by putting our team leader in there (it even found out that he was in Korea) and sent me a message saying, "Hire people through us," which was the original purpose.
I've received all sorts of AI-generated personalized emails, but this one—"Are you in San Jose?"—was cute enough... I was really surprised when they mentioned Team Leader Sol's name and South Korea together.
If you keep receiving cold emails like this, you'll start to see some patterns. Did AI tell you?!
We also share tips on how to spot AI-generated cold emails.
How to Detect AI-Written Cold Emails
Use of a lot of complimentary phrases.
Strangely, it specifies very precise details, which are listed on Linkedin or the company website.
Repeatedly use phrases such as ‘I respect your work’.
Write a phrase that encourages a call to action (CTA). For example, "Let's call this week."
Use expressions that are personalized (like mentioning our team leader Sol in an email), but have a somewhat odd tone.
Following the CEO's opening remarks, Team Leader Sol, based in Korea, delivers global news.

You'll be punished if you don't learn Korean?!

Last December, an outdoor advertisement appeared on LA's Sunset Strip featuring Duo (Duolingo's owl mascot) dressed as a squid game character and the witty slogan, "Learn Korean or you'll be punished."
This was a campaign that featured the foreign language learning app Duolingo, which is gaining attention for its unique marketing, and Netflix's "Squid Game 2." Duolingo, noticing a significant increase in users learning Korean after "Squid Game 1," didn't miss the opportunity to collaborate with "Squid Game 2." This was a case that made me realize that successful marketing is all about ideas and timing.

Last weekend, America's biggest sporting event, the Super Bowl, took place. Due to its massive viewership and buzz, a 30-second Super Bowl ad costs an average of $8 million (approximately 11.5 billion won), making it a significant brand impact.
Among the many advertisements that many companies spend astronomical amounts of money on to capture viewers, the 99¢ drink “Arizona” stands out for its boldness in boldly(?) announcing, “I won’t spend money on this!”
It was 99¢ when I was in the US about 10 years ago, so I think it's amazing that it's still the same price

Steam: Warning Messages Appear for Long-Abandoned Games After Early Access
Going forward, developers who announce Early Access on Steam should carefully monitor their update cycles. Steam will now display a warning message to users if a game hasn't received an update for approximately a year after Early Access. This will inform users that Early Access projects may no longer be supported or that their update schedules may vary significantly. However, concerns remain about what constitutes an update, as the warning message also appeared when updates were received via the Steam Beta option rather than the official download.

Increase your STEAM sales with influencer marketing?!

The GC team attended the 2024 GamePlus performance presentation. Park Jae-hyun, CEO of Kesera Games, who ran the campaign with us, was selected to present the results.
"Even though we only hired influencers in Japan and didn't conduct any other marketing activities, we achieved significant brand awareness and sales continued to increase even after the campaign ended," he said. This campaign lasted about a month and involved hiring around 10 Japanese influencers, distributing over 20 videos.
I remember the viewers having fun watching a mega creator and pro gamer being clumsy at rhythm games

Lies of P suddenly rose in the rankings on Twitch. What happened?
On January 10th, Lies of P hit the top of all streamers on Twitch with 77,000 concurrent viewers, so GC looked into what was going on
![]() "Lies of P," which jumped to 7th place, was selected as a charity play game at the charity streaming event GamesDoneQuick, attracting numerous streamers. At the event, not only well-known streaming channels but also many streamers voluntarily participated in the game play, with ContentFlux reporting around 23 streamers. Given the American culture of giving, it seems there were many voluntary participants in charity streams. The developers of 'Lies of P' must have been laughing at the unexpected(?) promotion. (Or maybe they knew about it in advance..) GamesDoneQuick (GDQ) is an event where streamers from around the world gather to broadcast live their timed completions of various games, collecting donations from viewers. Streamed live on Twitch, viewers can participate directly by donating to the participating streamers and setting specific gameplay requirements. ![]() |

GDC 2025
It seems like the new year was just the other day, but GDC San Francisco is just over a month away. Representative JH, who lives nearby, will be attending, so if you are coming to San Francisco, please let us know. Every year, we host a small dinner gathering with developers, and we're planning another one this year. We know you know the restaurant in San Francisco's Chinatown that President Barack Obama visited, and we hope many of you will attend.
You may have been concerned about the safety of San Francisco recently, but with a new mayor elected and a declaration of war on fentanyl, there are expectations for changes to come!
