Back in YouTube’s top ranks and re-entering Twitch after the introduction of “Buffy” — but balance concerns remain behind the numbers
A look at this week’s hottest titles through global streaming metrics, together with the data analytics solution ContentFlux.
Today’s spotlight is on Brawl Stars. Following the introduction of the new enhancement system “Buffy” last December, how has this eight-year live-service title changed in streaming metrics?

The Introduction of the New Enhancement System “Buffy” and Changes in Market Indicators
Brawl Stars is a real-time mobile battle shooter released by Supercell in 2018. Last December, Supercell rolled out an update introducing “Buffy,” a new system designed to strengthen character abilities.
As a new progression system, Buffy enhances previously endgame-level character abilities — such as Gadgets, Star Powers, and Hypercharges — through keychain-shaped items.

Meanwhile, following the system’s introduction, communities such as Reddit raised a range of concerns, given that the update was closely tied to overall balance. The main criticisms were that item performance could begin to matter more than player skill, and that the addition of another progression layer could raise the entry barrier for new users.
There was also a view that, because Buffy affects the game’s broader skill ecosystem, it would be difficult to maintain tight balance within a fixed update cadence.
Even so, key indicators continued to rise. Gaming outlet Pocket Gamer, citing AppMagic data, reported that Brawl Stars revenue increased 9.2% in February compared to January 2026, and then climbed another 46.8% in March from February, reaching $48.6 million.
Frank Keienburg, General Manager of Supercell, also stated on the Supercell blog that player engagement increased from the very first day of the December update and that this momentum continued through January and February.

Strong on YouTube, Back on Twitch — Quiet on Domestic Platforms
On the ContentFlux Top 100 chart, which tracks streaming performance rankings, Brawl Stars maintained a single-digit position on YouTube.
Its cumulative related-content views recorded 2.0 billion in December 2025 (9th), followed by 2.2 billion in January 2026 (8th), 2.5 billion in February (5th), and 2.9 billion in March (6th), showing continued strength near the top of the chart.
On Twitch, ranking movement became visible beginning in February this year. The title was outside the chart in December and January, but re-entered at No. 83 in February with 369,000 peak concurrent viewers, before climbing to No. 45 in March with 616,000 peak concurrent viewers.
This appears to reflect the impact of the large-scale late-February update featuring the 100th Brawler, “Sirius,” as well as the return of esports events such as the monthly finals of the Brawl Stars Championship 2026.
Meanwhile, on domestic platforms such as CHZZK and SOOP, Brawl Stars did not enter the Top 100 during the same period.

Looking at the global audience distribution, YouTube view share over the most recent three months as of April 10, 2026 was led by the United States at 31.4%, followed by Brazil at 18.1%, Turkey at 13.5%, and India at 8.8%.
The number of videos created was also led by the United States at 11.6%, with Brazil close behind at 11.0%.

On Twitch, language-based data showed especially strong shares for Russian and Spanish. Based on peak concurrent viewers, Russian accounted for 33.9% and Spanish for 27.1%, together making up more than half of the total.
Streaming activity by language also placed Russian first at 28.6%, while English at 16.6%, German at 16.6%, and Spanish at 16.2% showed similar proportions.

The 100th Brawler “Sirius” — From First Impressions to Hands-on Reactions
We also looked at how users actually responded to the 100th Brawler, “Sirius,” which was added in the late-February update.
Japanese Brawl Stars YouTuber YAPIMARU (340K subscribers) highlighted Sirius’s performance in an early-access gameplay video.
He gave high marks to Sirius’s combat power, particularly the ability to summon up to six clones and make use of camouflage. He also covered the character’s unique gameplay traits in detail, including the gauge-charging system required for clone summoning and the structure of Sirius’s skills.
Viewer sentiment on that video reflected concerns that the character’s performance could affect balance, with negative sentiment at 24% exceeding positive sentiment at 18%. Sirius was later nerfed once in the March update.

Next, Spanish YouTuber GoDeiK (3.96 million subscribers) covered a mission challenge in which he won one match with each of 99 Brawlers in order to unlock Sirius for free.
He shared both the sense of accomplishment after completing the mission and the fatigue that came with maintaining focus over a long play session.
Positive sentiment on that video reached 41%, higher than in the previous example. However, this appears to have been influenced by participation comments related to the Sirius giveaway event that was ongoing at the time.

The concurrent rise in key indicators following the Buffy update can be interpreted as a result of the changes introduced by the system. Even so, understanding users’ actual responses beyond the headline metrics — including ongoing balance concerns — rem
ains an important task.
Whether this rise in metrics proves to be a short-term reaction or develops into sustained long-term performance will be worth watching.
